Few homes have lived as public a life as the “Dubrow Chateau.” Built in full view of national television audiences, sold in a record-setting off-market deal, and now back on the market for even more, this Newport Beach estate has become one of the most talked-about pieces of real estate in Orange County history.
From Empty Lot to Reality-TV Star
The story begins in 2013, when Dr. Terry Dubrow — the plastic surgeon known for Bravo’s “Botched” — and his wife Heather Dubrow, a star of “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” bought a vacant three-quarter-acre lot in the guard-gated Crystal Cove enclave for $4.2 million. Over the next several years, they poured roughly $21 million into custom-building a four-story, Tuscan-style villa on the site, a process that played out on camera and turned the construction itself into a season-long storyline on RHOC.
The finished product, which debuted to viewers in 2021, was built to impress. Spanning somewhere between 20,000 and 22,000 square feet depending on the source, the estate includes seven bedrooms and thirteen bathrooms. Its interiors became instantly recognizable to Bravo fans: a custom-etched glass mural tracing the Dubrow family tree, a glass-enclosed and illuminated Champagne wall in the formal dining room, and a foyer chandelier fashioned from semiprecious stone and stretching some 22 feet. Heather Dubrow once joked that the house had “become sort of a character” on the show. Terry, for his part, told Architecture Digest in 2018 that they’d never sell — joking that they’d have to bury him in the backyard.
The Sale That Shocked Orange County
Three years later, circumstances changed. By the fall of 2022, the Dubrows’ two eldest children had headed off to college, and the couple began weighing what came next. At BravoCon that October, Heather hinted at a transition underway. Days later, she confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the family had quietly sold the Newport Beach mansion — for $55 million.
The deal was never publicly listed. It was brokered by Josh Altman, star of “Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles,” who later described it as one of the best deals of his career, calling it a case of “catching lightning.” The buyer’s identity was shielded through a California-registered LLC, a common tool for high-net-worth buyers seeking privacy in ultra-luxury transactions.
The sale instantly rewrote the record books for the region: it was the most expensive residential sale in Orange County for all of 2022, and the third-highest sale in county history. For the Dubrows, the windfall helped fund their next chapter — including a $14 million penthouse in Century City and, later, an additional $13.75 million penthouse in the same building, plus a lakeside vacation property they’d begun building in Idaho.
The Buyer, Revealed
For years, the identity behind the anonymous LLC remained a mystery to the public. That changed when reporting identified the purchaser, a Chinese entrepreneur who is the co-founder of one of China’s largest medical device manufacturers. Xu picked up the estate in the off-market 2022 deal, making it, by a wide margin, Orange County’s priciest residential transaction of the year.
Back on the Market — At a Premium
In 2026, the Dubrow Chateau resurfaced for sale once again, this time listed at $62 million — a $7 million markup over its 2022 sale price. The listing is held by Ginger Glass of Compass. Reports describe the estate as largely unchanged from its reality-TV heyday, still perched on its promontory lot at the end of a cul-de-sac with ocean views.
Whether the home finds a buyer at its new asking price will test just how much cachet a famous television backstory adds to an already rarefied slice of California coastline. For now, the Dubrow Chateau remains a rare case of a home whose fame outlasted its original owners — a Bravo set piece turned international real estate trophy, changing hands between a celebrity power couple and a Chinese industrial magnate for tens of millions of dollars.
